Playing The Constitution

Professor Christian Halliburton, Seattle University School of Law,

Playing the Constitution is a musical public read aloud marathon of the U.S. Constitution designed to allow for comments, questions, sharing experiences and opinions. This is a candid, unscripted collective Constitution reading / interpretation that gives time and space for complexity and depth. During  Playing the Constitution, the public is invited to step up to the microphone to read the document. Accompanying the readers are musicians, who play to the reading of each participant. Lawyers, constitutional scholars, and law students are on hand to share insights and answer questions as they arise, live, in real time. Playing the Constitution turns the reading of what often is a little understood document into a living dynamic text.
Playing The Constitution has been held at The Jewelbox Theater in Seattle, The National Underground, and The Living Room in New York City.
