PATRIOT
In a strategic essentialist spirit, Linda Pollack recently produced a few thousand 1” red buttons that simply state “PATRIOT" in white. For those willing to wear them, these buttons elicit a micro-political re-calibration of the individual’s relationship to one’s country and its laws. To individually reclaim “PATRIOT” from its offensive, acronymic state (Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism) is to distinguish and amplify the importance of personal participation, however minimal or abstract, within the American democratic context.
